What We Do

Our project & application process

Our program is based on the list of critical skills as identified by the South African Government. We are constantly seeking to improve and expand on our program to ensure we stay current of the ever-changing needs in the manufacturing industry.

Registration must be paid before course commences.  Course fees must be paid in 2 part, 50% on start and 50% by the 8th week.

beginners sewing skills
(FREE)

Starts Tuesday 6 September 2022  – Ends 22 November 2022 

NQF LEVEL: 01 

CREDITS: 34 

DURATION: 12 Weeks (12 Lessons) 

TIME: 08H30 – 12H30 

PRICE: Free (Only for women between 15 and 20 years old (R300 Commitment fee payable) (non refundable) 

Target Audience: 

This is a program for beginners who has never worked on a sewing machine before, has no knowledge of how to operate an industrial sewing machine. This course is designed for women who intend to start their own clothing label or business. 50% of the course content covered consists of theory and 50% practical. 

This is a FP&M SETA Accredited course which requires you to complete 340 hours in order to receive a SETA certificate.

advanced sewing skills

Starts Saturday 3 September -Ends 19 November 2022 

ALIGNED TO NQF LEVEL: 02 

CREDITS: Not an Accredited Course 

DURATION: 12 Weeks (12 Lessons) 

TIME: 08H30 – 12H30 

PRICE: R500 per lesson & R300 registration fee (non refundable)

Target Audience: 

This is a program for women who has an interest in making their own garments. It would be advantageous if you have some knowledge of working on a sewing machine and how to operate, thread and troubleshoot it.

THE FOLLOWING MODULES WILL BE COVERED:

1. Recap and introduction to 4 different types of sewing machines 

2. Using different attachments 

3. Putting in of zips. 

4. Different components to completing a garment 5. Making small samples of these components 

6. Construction of a sleeve into a garment 

7. Do binding, elastic, pockets, collars.

Starts Monday 5 September 2022 – Ends 21 November 2022 

ALIGNED TO NQF LEVEL: 02 

CREDITS: Not an Accredited Course 

DURATION: 12 weeks (12 Lessons) 

TIME: 08H30 – 12H30 

PRICE: R600 per lesson & R300 registration fee (non refundable) 

Target Audience: 

This is a program for women who has an interest in making their own patterns.

2. Draft a basic bodice block pattern 

3. Draft a pencil and circle skirt pattern

Starts Wednesday 7 September 2022 – Ends 23 November 2022 

ALIGNED TO NQF LEVEL: 01 

CREDITS: Not an Accredited Course 

DURATION: 12 weeks (12 Lessons) 

TIME: 08H30 – 12H30 

PRICE: R400 per lesson & R300 registration fee (non refundable) 

Target Audience: 

This is a program for beginners who has never worked on a sewing machine before, has no knowledge of how to operate an industrial sewing machine.  This course is not meant for women who intent starting their own business.  This course content consist only of practical.  This is not an accredited course.

8. Threading 2 types of machines / change needles

9. Winding a bobbin and inserting a bobbin case

10. Get to know your machine 

11. Introduction to different types of attachments  

 
Learnerships

Once learners completed the 12 weeks course they are automatically selected into our learnership program.  Further training will be provided on an NQF Level 2 at one of our collaborative partners.  This is a paid stipend learnership and applicants will have to be committed to a 1 year on the job training program with a possibility of becoming permanently employed at Design26 (Pty) Ltd.
